Healing Veteran Isolation - ABT Kindred Spirits Group #11

Historian Patty Limerick joins us this session and we set to work forging a narrative connecting modern war veterans with their 19th century counterparts.

In this Narrative Gym style session, the Kindred Spirits group works with Patty Limerick on her narrative, helping to strengthen her ABT by clarifying her Ultimate & Proximate Goals, Dream, and central theme (Dobzhansky).

ABT #1

Enlisted veterans of the Global War on Terror era feel widely alienated by their return to America's disordered individualist society, AND their experiences are often likened to Vietnam veterans. BUT their experiences are more compellingly compared to those of enlisted men in the all-volunteer Army of the 19th century Indian Wars. THEREFORE a deeper understanding of 21st century veterans can be found by examining their distant cousins of the late 19th century

ABT #2

In their return to a disordered nation, any enlisted Veterans of the Global War on Terror era feel isolated, AND their experiences, challenges, and concerns are often likened to those of Vietnam Veterans, many of whom were conscripts, BUT the experiences of the all-volunteer enlisted military personnel in the 21st century of Global War on Terrorism prove to be a much closer match to the enlisted soldiers in the all-volunteer Army of the 19th century Indian Wars, THEREFORE a dialogue between 21st century Veterans and their 19th century kinfolk could reduce the perilous sense of isolation felt by Veterans today when they have separated from the military.
